Private Sketching Sessions
Time. Just for you.
How often do you tell yourself you'll do something and then don't quite get around to it? Just a couple of hours doing something that isn't work, or chores, or scrolling? If that sounds familiar, a private sketching session might be exactly the nudge you need to actually do it.
I offer one-to-one and one-to-two sessions for anyone who wants more focused time to draw — whether you're a complete beginner, someone who has come to one of my group workshops and wants to go a little deeper, or someone with a specific skill you'd like to work on.
What a session looks like
1-2-1 vs 1-2-2 sessions
1-2-1: Just you and me. Entirely focused on your interests, your pace, and what you want to get from the session.
1-2-2: Bring a friend, partner, or family member. A lovely way to share a creative experience together — and a wonderful gift idea, too. Sessions are still tailored to your interests as a pair, and the relaxed atmosphere means you can encourage each other as you go.
Pricing
Private sessions start from £65 for a 2-hour session (1-2-1 or 1-2-2). Longer sessions are available — just ask.
Sessions take place within a 30-mile radius of Berwick-upon-Tweed. If you'd like me to travel to your home, mileage will be included in the fee.
What we could focus on
Here are some of the things people often ask to work on — but if you have something else in mind, just ask:
Building confidence — finding your drawing voice and learning to enjoy the process, not just the result
Sketching in nature — how to observe and record plants, birds, landscapes and seasonal change
Perspective and composition — understanding how to make your sketches feel balanced and three-dimensional
Colour and watercolour — getting comfortable with paint and learning to mix and layer colour outdoors
Developing a sketchbook practice — how to make sketching a regular, enjoyable habit
Sessions last 2 or 3 hours and can take place outdoors in a location of your choice, or at your home — wherever feels right for you. I work within a 30-mile radius of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
You set the agenda. Some people arrive knowing exactly what they want to work on. Others just want a relaxed couple of hours drawing in nature, with a bit of gentle guidance and some friendly prompts. Both are completely fine.
I'll usually bring:
A range of materials for you to experiment with (think of them as a box of exciting art supplies — without the trip to the shop)
Visual handouts that explain and illustrate the things we talk through and practise together
Plenty of ideas for exercises if you'd like some direction
There's no performance required. No masterpiece expected. Just you, a sketchbook, and a bit of time to slow down.
Gift vouchers
A private sketching session makes a genuinely thoughtful gift — for a birthday, a treat for a friend who "always meant to learn to draw," or a quiet, restorative experience for someone who could do with a bit of time for themselves. Get in touch to discuss a gift booking.
What people say
"I think that a 1-2-1 tutorial is really beneficial — group work is good, but you can't possibly cover everything that is important to each person. It certainly works for me."
"Thank you so much for your time and expertise. We both enjoyed it and took so much from the session."
