Full Day Nature Sketching workshop at Hepple Wilds

I’m running my very first full-day sketching workshop at the beautiful Hepple Whitefield estate, near Rothbury.

We'll begin indoors in the morning with some core techniques and experimentation with materials before moving outside for a guided sketch walk through the estate. We'll focus on the small and intricate - a lichen-covered stone, a grass seedhead, a flower, before widening our focus to take in the broader character of the landscape. After lunch, there's time for a longer, more personal session for you to practice your newly-acquired skills.

The Hepple estate in June is full of beautiful fritillary butterflies foraging on wild angelica heads, young redstarts hopping around ancient oaks, and dragonflies perched on ragged robin flowers. Hepple isn't usually open to the public, so this is an extra special opportunity to get to see around and we'll have with us the estate's ecologist and guide, Richard Thompson, to share his knowledge of the estate's habitats and wildlife.

This workshop is perfect if you’ve always wanted to be a β€˜sketcher’ but have been scared off by the little voice in your head that tells you that you can’t draw! We’ll learn a number of ways to quiet that voice and focus on enjoying the process of drawing - connecting and engaging with a very special natural place as we do so. Equally, if you’ve done some sketching before but would like a day focusing on experimenting with materials, approaches and learning new techniques - this workshops is also for you!

All sketching materials and lunch are provided. Β£70 per person and spaces are limited to 12.
